Germany's National Security Council called for further expansion of unmanned systems, counter-drone capabilities and air defence at its meeting on 3 November, according to a government statement. The meeting was chaired by the federal chancellor.

The council discussed NATO defence planning and Germany's contribution to overall defence. It also identified long-range weapons and responsible military use of artificial intelligence as priorities. The statement gives no quantities, funding amounts, delivery dates or new procurement orders for those capabilities.

The council also decided to strengthen the space-security architecture through space research and development, the government said, after reviewing implementation of its space-security strategy. The press release records a policy decision without establishing that additional capabilities have already been delivered.

The council endorsed the government's AI taskforce report, which the statement says was published for the Digital Summit on 2 and 3 November. In its discussion of the legal framework for intelligence activities, it agreed to examine rules governing outside employment and work after leaving civil or military service.

The statement gives no timetable for that examination or for the broader expansion goals. It documents discussions, priorities and individual decisions by the council; concrete implementation steps remain unspecified.
